Andy's Classics.....

As promised Andy's caravan classics page is here, with caravans that I have photographed over the last few years due to their rarity or classic status or just because I cant resist it! Some of these vans are in a rather poor state, and are in need of TLC, while others are in excellent order. Some are not painted in the original colours. With each one where possible I give a brief history, classic star rating up to five, as well as a star rating up to five for rarity.

Where do I find them? Well some have been literally by the side of the road, others down muddy tracks, fields, gardens, and dealer's forecourts no less! So please forgive some of the angles of the shots, its not always an easy task when your stood on a wall or wading through undergrowth or even being chased by dogs or Geese for that matter!

	Cresta Scout 14ft 4 berth / Year 1963/64 / Location; Garden near Filey York's / Rarity*** / Classic* / Found 2001/ Made by Cresta in Hull better know for static caravans, the Scout based very much on Cresta static designs.
	Cosy Car 9ft 2 berth / Year 1978 / Location; car park near Blackpool, Lancs / Rarity* / Classic / Found 1999 / Made by ex-Fisher caravan employees in Surrey. Production lasted only for a couple of years. Based very much on Fisher design and market.
	Abbey Standard 1600 16ft 5 berth / Year 1973 / Location; Pub car park near Barrow Cumbria / Rarity / Classic / Found 2001/ Made by Cosalt in Grimsby, Abbey Standard was budget range, Abbey name now owned by Swift.
	Sovereign 343 11ft 4 berth / Year 1968 / Location; Roadside near Penrith in Cumbria / Rarity** / Classic* / Found 1997/ Made by Marfleet Joinery, Hull. Sovereign bought by Mardon in 1971, both no longer produced. This was exactly the same model and year as my parents first caravan!
	Welton Rosaleda 13ft 4 berth / Year 1965 / Location; Old Cara Cars of Ilkley caravan dealer York's / Rarity** / Classic** / Found 2001 / Made at Welton near Hull, luxury and a quality make Welton were bought by Cosalt in 76, Welton name went in 1981.
	Elddis Whirlwind 10ft 6in 2 berth / Year 1966 / Location old barn in Warwickshire countryside / Rarity** / Classic** / Found 2001/ Very early Elddis, now explorer group, second largest UK maker to date. Whirlwind model name still in use!
	Bluebird 15ft 4 berth / Year 1950/51 / Location; Front garden in Somerset / Rarity*** / Classic** / Found 1999 / Bluebird would become very successful caravan manufacturer joining Sprite in 1963 to form Caravans International the then largest global caravan manufacturer.
	Mardon Mini 9ft 4 berth / Year 1968 / Location; Small used caravan dealer in Devon / Rarity* / Classic* / Found 1999 / Mardon were popular early Hull maker, built compact caravans as well as larger models, original company stopped in 1991.
	Sinclair Gordon 13ft 2 berth / Year 1972 / Location; Small used caravan dealers storage area in Devon / Rarity*** / Classic*** / Found 1999 / Only made two years, these were luxury caravans with special bonded side panels-only 38 made.
	Swift Silhouette 11ft 6in 4 berth / Year 1972 / Location; Small used caravan dealers in Devon / Rarity* / Classic** / Found 1999 / Swift were gaining much praise in this era, still small company in 72 but now UK's largest.
	Thomson Glendale 11ft 2 berth / Year 1964 / Location; back street in St Anne's Lancs. / Rarity* / Classic* / Found 1999 / Once largest caravan maker, based in Falkirk Scotland family owned business started back in the early 1900's, production stopped in 1982.
	CI Voyager 200/4 15ft 4 berth / Year 1988 / Location; Used caravan dealer at Carnforth Lancs. / Rarity*** / Classic** / Found 1997 / Futuristic caravan with high spec, only 30 or so made in two years, interestingly an Australian caravan maker launched it in Australia in 1995 as a brand new design!
